Why Physiotherapy?

Why Physiotherapy?

Lots of people always keep asking me that why one should go for physiotherapy and not any other healthcare profession?. And my answer to it is very simple, Physiotherapist is the only healthcare professional who can Assess, diagnose and treat their patients by means of simple but tricky corrections in their posture, gait, muscle imbalance, nerve conductivity and effective Exercise protocols without using any invasive therapy. Physiotherapists makes sure that their patient does not stop moving, because that is what physios learn during their 4 and half years of education that movement is the basic need of any living being. In this era of digitalization and robotics we humans are in very special need of health care professionals who can make us independent in our daily living as well as leisure activities. Talking about digitalization and industrialization, one more draw back of it is damage to our environment. Do you know health care industry is one of the biggest industry producing biomedical waste which also affects our environment. Only physiotherapy is the health care profession which leaves minimal carbon foot prints and biomedical waste as it mostly uses hands on therapy or treats patients by means of Exercises, posture corrections and lifestyle modifications. Now you tell me why not physiotherapy?

What to do after BPT?

Bachelors of physiotherapy is 4 and half years of course including internship, and most of us think that doing MPT (masters in physiotherapy) is the only option after that. But that is not true, there are various other options which we can opt for after BPT. Like MBA programs in which also we have 3 options MHA(masters in hospital administration), MPH (masters in public health), MBA in sports management. All these three course will upscale your management skills in healthcare industry and you can work in private, semi government or government sectors after completing it. Other option what we have is doing certification courses like Manual therapy, NDT, Antenatal-Postnatal, Pelvic floor physiotherapy or Aqua therapy from registered Academy depending on interest in field and continue working in that one specialization. We physios can also choose to work in defense services, for which age criteria is between 19-25 and you will have to clear combined defense exam taken by UPSC to get into it, by opting for this options you will be able to work with defense system of India as a physiotherapist at different levels. Apart from this there is always one option of going abroad and persuing career there as physiotherapist.

Can we consult physiotherapist directly without any reference ?

YES, Physiotherapist is defined as a person who practices physiotherapy by undertaking comprehensive examination and appropriate investigations, provides treatment and advice to any persons in connection with movement dysfunction, malfunction, disorder, disability, healing and pain from trauma and disease, using physical modalities, including exercise, mobilization, manipulation, electrical and thermal agents and other electrotheraputics for prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, health promotion and fitness, and that is why we physiotherapist can work independently or as a part of multidisciplinary team with minimum qualification of BPT (Bachelors in Physiotherapy)
